Gutor Ritual with Lama Sangye Monlam

From Jan 1 to 6, 2027 there is the opportunity to join Lama Sangye Monlam in performing Gutor, the ritual of the Wrathful Sherab Jyamma.

This ritual is traditionally performed in the last week of the year to expell obstacles of both the old year and the new.

In our case, this means the week leading up to Bon Losar (or Sonam Losar, or Bi-Lug Losar), which falls on January 8, 2027. (That is, one month before the more widely celebrated Losar date in February). This is the "agriculture" New Year celebrated by Farmers and Nomads, and particularly by Bonpos.

The schedule of Gutor in Jan 2027 at Yeshe Sal Ling

• Jan 1-2, making tormas representing Wrathful Jyamma and her retinue
• Jan 3-5, Reciting the Gutor Ritual
• Jan 6, throwing out the tormas, expelling obstacles, ablution ritual.
• also on Jan 6, preparing and eating Guthug, the traditional end-of-the-year soup with 9 ingredients

The last day of the old year (Jan 7, 2027) is traditionally a day of rest. The new year starts on Jan 8 (without fanfare).

Possible Torma Workshop

If there is interest, Lama Sangye will give instructions for making tormas, big and small, from tsampa or from clay.
